Strategy and Operations Associate UK

Do you want to take part in changing how pet care is provided worldwide – FirstVet is the right place for you!

Join us in changing how pet care is provided worldwide!

FirstVet is the first truly digital veterinary clinic. We let pet owners meet with licensed veterinarians via their mobile phone or computer. Our solution contributes to a more balanced and better functioning care process for the entire pet ecosystem. By providing a first point of contact for all pet owners, FirstVet makes pet care more available, more efficient, and more effective.

The role:

Ever since FirstVet started in 2016 we have been on a journey of rapid growth, and we are not stopping here. FirstVet’s UK business is growing quickly and as a part of that, we are looking to expand the UK team by hiring a Strategy & Operations Associate who will play a crucial role in the next evolution of growth for our business.

As a Strategy & Operations Associate, you will join a small UK team and play a key role in shaping and implementing the initial phases of several new strategic projects that will form a significant part of the UK business. A key part of this role initially will involve leading the launch of FirstVet’s e-commerce business in the UK, working together with our e-commerce team in Sweden (HQ) to establish the e-commerce supply chain, product assortment and business infrastructure in the UK. We launched our e-commerce business in Sweden in 2020 and we are now expanding e-commerce to our global markets. The scope of responsibilities for this role will be wide and, over time, can be developed to suit the interests of the right candidate.

In addition to e-commerce, the Strategy & Operations Associate will provide support on partnership operations, business development, and the implementation and growth of our direct-to-consumer (D2C) business, including our subscription product.

You will work in a fast-paced environment that is well-suited to a self-starter who enjoys taking initiative and jumping into new projects. Many of these will have complex challenges that aren’t always clearly defined. You will have the opportunity to work closely with colleagues across many different teams and markets, including partnerships, operations, data, marketing, tech and product.

You will report to the UK Strategy & Operations Director and work closely with the entire UK team to scale up FirstVet’s UK business and assist our other growth markets outside of the Nordics (currently Germany and the US).

This is a full-time role based in our London office. The London team currently works remotely, with plans to resume a flexible working arrangement in the future (combination of office and remote). Majority remote, but UK-based, candidates will be considered for this role.

Salary: £30,000 per annum plus excellent benefits package

Your responsibilities:

  • Laying the groundwork for the launch of our UK e-commerce business by establishing the processes for product procurement, product assortment, warehousing and logistics, inventory management and supplier management
  • Once e-commerce is operational, managing the daily operations and processes for e-commerce, including procurement, inventory management, supplier management and warehouse management
  • Leading e-commerce campaign planning and campaign management together with our key product suppliers and marketing the campaigns effectively
  • Monitoring and following up on key metrics for the e-commerce value chain on a daily basis, including warehousing and logistics, sales, marketing and customer service
  • Supporting the Strategy & Operations Director with the ongoing requirements of our existing partnerships (managing partner relationships, reporting and MI, data analysis and ad-hoc partner requests, customer validation and invoicing)
  • Supporting the scoping, development and implementation of strategic projects and new product offerings in collaboration with our Tech and Product teams in Sweden

Who we are:

You will be part of a fantastic group of people who believes that having fun together in a professional environment will build a long-lasting company culture where everyone gives 100%. We are a young and fast-growing start-up, working passionately to build a high-quality service and an expansive global company. We value personal qualities at least as much as background and experiences.

The person we are looking for:

To be successful in this role, you should be a self-starter who doesn’t hesitate to take initiative. You should also have a strong interest in joining an early-stage startup where roles and responsibilities aren’t always narrowly or clearly defined, and everyone works across a wide array of functions and responsibilities. You have innovative and pragmatic ideas on how to solve problems and you take action to resolve challenging situations.

About you:

  • You have a 2:1 or 1st class degree in a relevant subject from a top tier university
  • You have at least 1 year of work experience in a startup or growth company environment, professional services or a technology company. However, we are flexible to other backgrounds and levels of experience for the right candidate
  • You have an interest in e-commerce and consumer-facing technology businesses. While direct experience in e-commerce would be a plus, it is not a requirement for the role
  • You enjoy building things from the ground up, navigating uncertainty and making informed decisions with imperfect information
  • You are highly commercial and data-driven with exceptional attention to detail
  • You are able to own a project from start to finish
  • You’ll thrive in a dynamic environment where you have the opportunity to shape your role within a growing start-up

Apart from the above-mentioned requirements, it goes without saying that an interest in animals is highly desirable. We’re a pet-orientated organisation and it’s not unusual for a dog or cat to join our Zoom calls!

Or, know someone who would be a perfect fit? Let them know!
