Join FirstVet as the OOH Veterinary Nurse to the Veterinary Operations Team

FirstVet is the video vet service. We launched in the UK in 2019 and have now grown to the point where we need a dedicated out of hours Veterinary Nurse to join our Operations team. Because FirstVet in the UK is growing, the future of the role can be shaped by the candidate - potentially either towards managing clinical support for the vets, or by taking more of a leadership role in the operations of the practice. We want to get in touch with dedicated vet nurses and veterinary practice professionals who are passionate about helping people and animals, and at the same time are ready to try a new, video call based way of working.

Pet care is changing and digitalisation is becoming increasingly important. FirstVet's vision is to streamline the interaction between pet owners and veterinarians by offering advice and simple initial screening examinations through video meetings on mobile phones, computers and tablets. An initial video call offers many advantages, including the ability to initially assess the animal in its safe, home environment. The veterinarian can quickly assess the pet’s condition, and through communication with the owner, either recommend simple treatments or provide referral to a local veterinary clinic.

As the OOH Veterinary Nurse you would be responsible for supporting the FirstVet vet team to deliver their remote consultations in the best way possible. The FirstVet service is constantly evolving, and the future of the role can be shaped in line with the interests of the right candidate.

This role is a full time OOH role of 40hrs per week covering weekends and three evenings a week. The role would start with normal working hours for 2-4 weeks, then transition to the long term OOH schedule when training is finished.

  • Initially: Support the Operations Manager to plan and analyse the staffing schedule for our veterinarians and daily operations. Deliver vet support during two weekend days and three weeknight evenings- to be discussed.
  • Initially: Initiating vet recruitment, manage customer support and use of the automated consultation booking process (you will not be scheduling appointments; this is done through the app)
  • Future (candidate dependent): Support the UK Lead Vet to manage the quality control of FirstVet veterinary service delivery
  • Future (candidate dependent): Manage the link between FirstVet and physical veterinary clinics, facilitating patient referrals and follow up consultations
  • Future: (candidate dependent): Take over more of the vet scheduling and support process.

Education and experience requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse OR 3+ years of experience working in a veterinary clinic in a practice management role

Scope of service

In the current situation we are looking to add a team member to work full time and remotely. This could transition back to a flexible, central London, semi office-based full time role or could remain a remote role depending on the candidate.
